City as Our Campus Mentor Information

We recently had a meeting with Para Olympic Gold Medalist Dan McCoy. In this meeting we were able to ask many questions regarding the durability of the sled, along with what could be improved. New ideas he provided us with were making the sled into multiple pieces while keeping the durability, to create an interchangeable aspect. Other ideas were making the pipes hollow, making the seat's plastic flexible, and making the skag significantly more durable.

When we visited TechShop we were able to form many new ideas on how we could go about creating our sled. The most prominent are through using welding skills to mesh material and the vacuum former to create a seat for the sled. So far we have been able to take a Vacuum Forming class and an introduction to welding, which will both greatly benefit our project.

On a visit to Union Orthopedics and Prosthetics we were able to discover new types of materials we could possibly use to create the seat. These would be different types of plastics, glues, and flower foam.

Our most recent City as Our Campus meeting was a facetime call with the equipment director of the Pittsburgh Mighty Penguins. Went went over our first semi functional frame iteration with her and she was able to give us advice on small changes we could make to improve it.
